My Philosophy

"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." - Benjamin Franklin

All students are unique individuals who learn at a different pace, in different ways, and  possess different thoughts. For students to learn, they need to be in a safe environment that allows them to explore their curiosity while growing physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. I want to create a learning environment in my classroom that allows my students to learn without fear of failure, embrace themselves, and embrace the differences of others.

It is my job, as an educator, to create an environment in my classroom that makes students feel comfortable to expand their knowledge and grow as people. I believe in a classroom that provides students with all the materials they need to be successful. I aim to be a teacher that values my students’ choices, learning strategies, and needs. I am not afraid to differentiate my instruction to better support and fit the needs of my students. I believe that all students are capable of growing and learning in a classroom that provides the differentiated instruction that best fits a variety of learning styles.

As a teacher, it is my job to explore each of my students learning styles and use them in my curriculum and instruction. I aim to use many differentiated strategies that will keep my students engaged in my inclusive classroom. By providing different forms of learning, ALL of my students can participate in everyday instruction. Carol Ann Tomlinson, author of Mapping a Route Toward Differentiated Instruction, said, “Developing academically responsive classrooms is important for a country built on the twin values of equity and excellence.” These are both values that I hope to bring into the classroom with differentiated instruction.
